Q. What’s your background? Are you going to give me a plan with plants I can’t find easily in the Albany NY area?
A. John Kelly is the owner and lead designer of Land Design, Inc. and Landscape Plan Services. John has 30 years field and office experience in Albany’s Capital District. He spent 15 years as a foreman and designer at Faddegon’s Nursery in Latham, NY and started Land Design in 2003 to provide landscape design only services. John is a member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.
We are familiar with the usual nursery stock availability. We aim to use low maintenance plants that are hardy and not fussy.
We also have become very familiar with native plants, incorporating them into traditional landscapes where possible.
Q. Why is your pricing so reasonable to landscape contractors?
A. Since you are providing the site analysis (measurements, photos, client input) we don’t have to visit the site. That travel and other time is a huge part of our overhead of our residential division. We are also counting on you to provide us with a steady supply of work without us chasing down leads.
All materials are delivered by email or into a Dropbox account which you’ll need to set up and give us access to a jobs folder. Not printing materials is a huge cost saver also. We find a 11 x 17 format works well and many contractors have a printer capable of that. Our plant portfolios will be in a PDF format and you can also simply email your client the link to the cloud version of the portfolio, which is a job seller!
Remember we are here to help you grow your business. We consider all of our trade customers to be part of our extended team. We regularly refer our design clients to our team for installation services.
Q. How do I start using your landscape design services?
A. We can start with a phone call meeting or email. We’d like to get a sense of what your expectations are, what is your usual time frame for turnaround, and how comfortable you re with the tech we use.
Look at the examples we have for good measurement and photo submissions. You’ll need a Dropbox account which you can upload your job info a client folder and we’ll put the completed materials there when we are done, along with your invoice.
Q. What are your prices and payment terms for providing landscape plans to contractors?
A. Typical foundation planting plans can be as low as $250 for the plan and portfolio. We will look at every job you submit and confirm the price with you before we start. Hardscape plans will obviously be more.
WE DO EXPECT TO BE PAID IN A TIMELY MANNER, IDEALLY WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF DELIVERY OF OUR MATERIALS. Mailing a check in is fine and we can discuss other options if necessary.
